JMI: Students at Jamia Millia Islamia University will soon have the opportunity to transform their ideas and creativity into prototypes. The university will soon establish an Idea Development Evaluation and Application (IDEA) Lab.  

The lab will be set up with the approval from the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) Scholarship and Grant Bureau, which has also granted a fund of 55 lakh rupees for the establishment of the cutting-edge IDEA Lab on campus.  

In addition to this, the university has already received approval for an 18 lakh rupee grant from two industries to assist in the lab’s setup. The lab will provide students with opportunities for inquiry, experience, expression, and excellence. According to the university, the lab will be available 24/7.  

The lab aims to foster imagination and creativity, while also offering foundational training in essential 21st-century skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving, design thinking, collaboration, communication, and lifelong learning.  

The lab will offer all the necessary facilities under one roof to turn ideas into prototypes. It will encourage both students and faculty to engage in creative work. The proposal for this lab was presented in September 2024 under the guidance of Professor Mini S. Thomas, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology.
