According to this scheme, students are eligible for admission to IITs if they have qualified for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced and have shown international-level performance in sports.
Professor Mahesh Panchagnula, Head of the Center of Excellence in Sports and Analytics at IIT Madras, stated that the IIT Council approved this scheme two years ago, and since then, several applications have been received.
However, five students were granted seats based on meeting the necessary criteria. These students not only performed excellently at the international level in their respective sports but also qualified for JEE Advanced.
The five students admitted are:
Nandini Jain, a squash player from Delhi who has represented India twice at the Asian Junior Games, has been admitted to B.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering (CSE).
Prabhav Gupta, a table tennis player from Delhi, has been admitted to B.Tech in Artificial Intelligence (AI).
Aarohi Bhave, a national junior volleyball player from Maharashtra, has been admitted to B.S. in Medical Science and Engineering.
Aryaman Mandal, a national water polo and swimming player from West Bengal, has been admitted to B.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering (CAEE).
Vangala Vedavachan Reddy, a lawn tennis player from Andhra Pradesh, has been admitted to B.Tech in Artificial Intelligence (AI).
